Newton Medical Center is using custom phone cards as a part of an admission kit in each patient room. They believe that there are many occasions when the patient needs to notify family/friends and doesn't have access to long distance. Also, they are using them in their Service Recovery kits that are available for all hospital staff to use in the event of an "unhappy customer" situation. For example, if a patient is delayed in the ER, and they need to contact family or if the family needs to notify other family, we can give them a phone card. Staff are using them in many different ways in an effort to say "we're sorry, we didn't meet your expectations. Please accept this as a small token." basically.
