South Dakota State Parks (www.sdgfp.info) are all about helping people forge memories that will last a lifetime. State parks provide one of the best places where families can come together to enjoy each other over an extended period of time. Because of this, The South Dakota State Parks have both an opportunity and a responsibility to do what they can to provide positive outdoor experiences. To them families are one of the most important resources that they help protect and nourish at our state parks.

To help facilitate positive memories, their goal is to exceed park visitors' expectations through quality programs, clean restrooms, friendly service and a host of other amenities. South Dakota state parks include many unique natural resources and offers a wonderful chance to explore South Dakota at its best. Hopefully you will consider making plans to visit one of the 12 state parks, 41 recreation areas, 5 nature areas, 1 historic prairie, 70 lakeside use areas, 10 marina/resorts, 114 mile Mickelson Trail, the snowmobile trail or one of the 220 public water access areas.

The South Dakota State Parks uses a number of people to help meet the needs of our visitors. Volunteers play a major part in our state parks and recreations areas. These volunteers act as campground hosts, maintenance and program volunteers, work in the visitor centers, and answer numerous questions for travelers. This year as a thank-you to the 400 volunteers that worked throughout the year they each received a 30-minute phone card as a volunteer christmas gift. This card had a personal message thanking them for all that they do to make our state parks one of the best across the country.
