The mission of Mountain-Pacific Quality Health Foundation (www.mpqhf.org) is to promote and evaluate quality health care.  Their goal, as a Quality Improvement Organization (QIO), is to improve the health of people in the areas they serve: Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii and the territories of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas and American Samoa.

They promote excellence in health care through collaborations with health care professionals and advocates. Together with their partners, they

They also work to protect the health of people with Medicare by
* promoting healthful lifestyles and preventive care
* informing people with Medicare about their medical rights
* performing medical reviews when requested

The purpose of the 12-minute phone was to increase breast cancer awareness and encourage women to get clinical breast exams and mammograms. The message was simple, every 12 minutes a woman in the U.S. dies from breast cancer - it doesn't have to be that way.

The Montana 5-year survival rate for Stage I breast cancer is 97 percent. Annual clinical breast examinations and mammograms are just about the only way to detect Stage I breast cancer.

Early detection provides a woman with more treatment options and dramatically increases the likelihood she'll still be there when her family needs her most - new babies, weddings and graduations. We asked people to use the phone cards to call a women they care about and encourage her to make an appointment for her clinical breast exam and mammogram.
