The purpose of the 12-minute phone was to increase breast cancer awareness and encourage women to get clinical breast exams and mammograms. The message was simple, every 12 minutes a woman in the U.S. dies from breast cancer - it doesn't have to be that way. The Montana 5-year survival rate for Stage I breast cancer is 97 percent. Annual clinical breast examinations and mammograms are just about the only way to detect Stage I breast cancer. Early detection provides a woman with more treatment options and dramatically increases the likelihood she'll still be there when her family needs her most - new babies, weddings and graduations. We asked people to use the phone cards to call a women they care about and encourage her to make an appointment for her clinical breast exam and mammogram.
