The "connect to your kind of pace" phone cards, supplied by corporatephonecards.com, were designed by Lake County Government's Information Outreach Section. The phone cards are used to promote tourism and reward volunteerism in the County. Volunteers from the Lake County Volunteer Program received phone cards as a token of the county's appreciation for their hard work during the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons. Volunteers helped complete many tasks associated with hurricane preparation and recovery, including distributing ice, water and food; answering citizen calls; walking door-to-door to check on neighbors; and removing downed trees from private property. In all, volunteers donated 29,000 hours, which equates to about $900,000 in savings for the community. The phone cards assist with the Lake County Department of Economic Development and Tourism marketing campaign as the cards include the tourism logo and slogan, "Your kind of pace." In addition, the 30-minute prepaid phone cards list the tourism office's toll free number, (800) 430-LAKE, and Web site, www.lakecountyfl.com .
