What can family members, friends and well-wishers do when they want to brighten someone's day? Anthony Scarpino, director of Food Services at Children's Hospital Boston, and his team wondered the same thing, so they decided to do something about it.

Working with Child Life Services & the Family Advisory Council, they developed several gift bags filled with a variety of useful items such as parking vouchers, coupons to the hospital's cafeteria, shower sandals for parents staying at the hospital and the phone cards . "The gift bag service will provide an opportunity to friends and family who are not able to visit, but want to offer support in some way," says Carol Finlayson, Catering Manager. The phone cards are especially useful because cell phones are not allowed in patient rooms and because patients at Children's Hospital Boston come from around the globe.
